Guildford and South Surrey Branch

Branch activities

For people with Parkinson's, socialising and exercise are equally important.

We have monthly meetings, summer outings, exercise, and singing. The teachers are highly professional, experienced and friendly - and they tailor their classes for individual members at different stages of the condition.

We also have an annual Florence Pite Memorial Lecture. The 2020 lecture will take place on Thursday 5 March at the Francis Crick Institute, 1 Midland Road, London NW1 1AT. Florence Pite was a local member of our branch who left a very generous legacy, and the lecture is in her honour.

Many of the current activities are subsidised by the Florence Pite legacy. These subsidies will expire at the end of 2020, when the cost to participants will have to be increased.

Exercise activities in Cranleigh are provided by Surrey Hills Rehab, and activities in Godalming and Haslemere are provided by Foundations Physio. The service includes an annual 1:1 review with a NeuroPhysiotherapist, which is used to ensure that the member is allocated to the appropriate class.  Click for more information about Surrey Hills Rehab and Foundations Physio.

The classes offered are:

Physiotherapy and exercise

High intensity exercise is the only known treatment thought to slow down disease progression. The cost at Cranleigh is £15 per session, and £18 at Godalming and Haslemere. Guildford & South Surrey branch members benefit from a subsidy, and pay only £5 per session.

Pilates is a form of exercise that improves movement patterns, posture and strength throughout the body. The subsidised cost for members at West Clandon, wef January 2020, is £5 per session (£12 for non-members).

Spaces are available for the classes starting again on 8 January 2020. Contact Sue Buckland at or on 01483 285111 or 07914 512573.

Balance sessions
